The first time I remember — sitting alone at home, being quite lost in thought, when the doorbell rang.
I stood up, walked over to the door and checked there was nobody.
Oh – I was confused, slightly disturbed even.
As I have walked deeper into my spiritual journey over the years, many like-minded souls share their stories with me.
Today, I will talk about the doorbell ring and what my experience taught me.
Spiritual Meanings Of Doorbell Ringing And No One There:
They are about the spirit world
Spirits, and more so loved ones who have passed over, are always trying to communicate with me.
I mean, for me, the doorbell is a very familiar, non-threatening way of getting my attention. But in my experience, they tend to happen during times when our emotions are high, or we’re going through a big change.
I remember distinctly after my grandfather died.
During this period of my life, I felt lost.
One evening, I heard the doorbell. I got up to answer it, but no one was there.
I blew this off at first, thinking it was a prank – until the next night.
And this time, somehow, the calm covered me like a tide. I knew that it was his way of giving me a sign from the other side.
These are things I have learned to value over time.
It means that life and death go hand in hand as a part of an endless repetitive cycle, but our deceased ones also remain among us.
Now, if there is an unexpected ring of my doorbell, I open up in my heart for any messages.
They are about new beginnings
There were times when I felt so insecure about my current life that the doorbell was a sign from God.
God is encouraging me to get out of my comfort zone.
Thinking of the doorbell as a signal from God really has made new opportunities seem more inviting.
The doorbell takes on positive symbolism then: a signal that what is different should be welcomed instead of mistrusted.
It reminds me that every end is just actually a new beginning.
These moments have reminded me that I need to trust in the timing of my life and be willing to remain open for whatever new door may open.
And in that manner, the doorbell ringing without explanation becomes a tool, if you will, for self-improvement.
It reminds me to step boldly into my future with the certainty that I will be helped each step of the way.
They are about paying attention to the surroundings
That random instance of a doorbell ringing with no visible cause can signal me spiritually to be more aware.
The sound of the doorbell breaks me out of living on auto-pilot.
For instance, there were times when I was focused on my work, and the bell rang unexpectedly. And I remember when it first started, how irritating that was to hear because I was like, who is there?
After a while, though, I started to view it as how you would someone offering advice in the form of a pause and take notice that maybe there is more going on.
All of the distractions helped me see just how autopilot my life had become at times.
The ringing doorbell became the catalyst for me to take a look at what was important
It taught me to observe life and the small things around me like never before.
But by listening to that doorbell message, I ended up creating space for a more spacious balance in my life as a worker and had greater intimacy with the people around me.
It reinforced that idea of presence, listening and engagement with the world around you.
This sea change to my relations not only made me feel closer and less disturbed in most connections, but it also dropped me into a deeper well of spiritual practice that was so juicy!
They are about the inner world
Beyond the obvious physical awareness, that ring is an invitation for me to open up my internal doors and come knocking on my soul door.
It rings the metaphorical bell of my mind to open a door within myself.
When this does happen, I read it as an invitation to spiritual practice like meditating.
They have, in turn, helped me to build a better relationship with myself, getting deeper insights into my feelings.
In fact with meditation, I have revealed a lot of stuff that was deeply rooted in my mind.
Journaling has given me a place to sit with my feelings. Guided therapy has been invaluable in addressing past traumas.
These practices helped me to change my life literally before my very eyes.
They are about guidance
That sound of the ringing the doorbell is evidence that spiritual guides are with me.
It helps me move forward in assurance.
I take the doorbell as a sign from God that He has got my back. This allows me to stay balanced.
It gives me the faith to trust in what is happening on my life path.
It inspires me to get in tune with the small messages from God that lie there to direct me toward my best.
They are about unresolved issues
A doorbell ringing and no one being present can symbolize issues not yet put to rest in my living situation (my personal life).
Every time I hear the doorbell ring, and there is no one outside, my thought usually revolves around doors – both real or metaphorical ones in terms of personal relationships.
These doors I need to open and “fix” any unresolved issues.
